Ethica Group assisted Unicalce in obtaining non-repayable subsidies from the PNRR Funds from the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy

Ethica Group, with the Debt Advisory team, assisted Unicalce S.p.A. in obtaining non-repayable subsidies from the PNRR Funds. Unicalce operates in the mining sector, in particular in the extraction of limestone from owned quarries for the production of air lime and derivatives. Unicalce is the leading Italian producer of lime, dolomitic lime and derived products with 11 factories and 22 kilns throughout the country and a turnover of over €160 million in 2021.

The concessions were granted by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy under the Measure Contracts for the Development of Production Chains pursuant to Ministerial Decree 9 December 2014 and D.D. 25 March 2022, financed with PNRR funds. In particular, the project is aimed at converting the furnaces of three plants from natural gas to woody biomass. The investment, which is expected to be concluded in 2025, will allow the company to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and, consequently, greenhouse gas emissions, thanks to the use of renewable sources. This project falls within the Metal supply chain, as the production of steel represents the main use of lime.
